He was born in Sargodha, Pakistan. He started his religious journey from Jamia tul Muntazir Lahore and then he moved to Qum for further education. He studied in Houza Ilmiyah Qum for two decades until he has completed his Dars e Kharij. During this period he has studied philosophy of logic, hadees and exegesis for 17 years. He has completed the education of Ijtehaad during this period.
In 1983 he moved to the Hawzah Ilmiya Qum. He has also read number of books on philosophy like Badayatul Hikmat, Niyatul Hikma, Asfar Mulla Sadr. Meanwhile, he attended Kharij lecturers by from many eminent and well-known religious scholars like Ayatullah Sheikh Jawad Tabrizi, Ayatullah Waheed Khorasani, Ayatullah Mohammad Ali Alavi Gurganir and Ayatullah Nasir Makarim Shirazi. He completed his studies of Fiqh and Usul.
Kulayni himself stated in his preface that he only collected hadiths he thought were important and sufficient for Muslims to know (at a time when many Muslims were illiterate and ignorant of the true beliefs of Islam, and heretical Ṣūfi and gnostic sects were gaining popularity), and he left the verification of these hadiths up to later scholars. Kulayni also states, in reference to hadiths: “whatever (hadith) agrees with the Book of God (the Qur’an), accept it.
"Do you think it is enough [kafi] for our religious life to have its laws summed up in al-Kāfī and then placed upon a shelf?"
The famous Shī‘ah scholar Shaykh Sadūq didn't believe in the complete authenticity of al-Kāfī. "Shaykh as-Sadūq did not regard all of the traditions in al-Kāfī to be Sahih (truthful)."
Al-Istibsar is authored about Hadiths that seemingly are at variance with each other or “show discrepancies” in their contents. It included three parts. The first two parts are about Worship (except Jihad) and the last part is allocated to subjects of jurisprudence. The first part includes 300 chapters with 1899 Hadiths. The second part has 270 chapters with 1177 Hadiths and the last part included 398 chapters with 2455 Haithes.
